C arolina Day School is on the threshold of dynamic, strategic change that will positively affect current and future students for years to come. To facilitate the growth and development of programs and facilities over the next several years, a strategic planning process engaging the entire CDS community was undertaken during the 2014-15 school year. In the summer of 2014, the Board of Trustees' strategic plan committee took the lead for the process. The consulting firm, Ian Symmonds and Associates, was enlisted to gather extensive data which helped target areas of strength and brought focus to those programs and facilities needing improvement. From their efforts, we received valuable input from hundreds of CDS community members. Phrases used to describe CDS's strengths included: • Innovative teaching and learning • Close-knit community • Teachers and programs responsive to individual student needs • Close teacher-student relationships • Challenging academics The feedback brought to the forefront several areas that call for strategic planning to: • Become a more diverse community • Keep tuition affordable • Make even stronger the school's financial position • Enhance our campus and facilities The process also resulted in a new Mission Statement and nine Core Beliefs, upon which the entire Strategic Plan is founded. On May 16, 2015 the Board of Trustees approved the Mission Statement, Core Beliefs and Strategic Plan represented in this publication—a tremendously important moment for the the the school.
